THEY SAID IT WOULDN'T WORK!
IT'S A DEAD DUCK !...

Fifteen years ago, a small but dedicated band of volunteers got together and
started the mammoth task of breathing life back into the sad, derelict and
defunct Tivoli Theatre.
Despite a petition of over 7000 signatures, some of the town and borough's
elected and self appointed officials publicly declared this project to be a
waste of time and that the 'Wimborne Tax Payer wouldn't give you a thank you
for this White Elephant'.
This is, after all, small town Britain and God Forbid anyone should have a
positive view on anything!
Anyway...long story short...that was fifteen years ago and FIFTEEN years
later and without funding, The Tivoli celebrated its FIFTEENTH BIRTHDAY!!!
And to mark the occasion, we had a lovely little party with a screening of
the original film of 'The Lady Killers'. It was wonderful to see so many
people turn up to celebrate just how far we have come. I have been told that
there was probably over two hundred there. It certainly felt like that.
Not bad for a 'Dead Duck, eh?!!'
This year has been a fantastic year for the theatre, despite the very
depressing world economic situation.
Our shows have done very well for the most part and thanks to ABBA,
Indiana Jones and Keira Knightley, many of our films have done very well
too!
This is all very well for me to be saying this, but the truth of it is, is
that absolutely none of this could have happened if it wasn't for our
volunteers.
They have helped to turn this little gem of a building into a thriving and
successful business. Sadly, there are some people who haven't welcomed the
change, and that's a shame because if it had stayed as it was, it would
possibly have closed again, and all of that hard work would have been in
vain.
But, it hasn't closed, it's just had another birthday!
So, Thank you to all of you who have supported us by visiting. Thank you to
The Trustees and management team, Thank you to the Fundraisers and Advisory
Committees, Thank you to those of you who have stuck with us since the
beginning and who steadfastly turn up to work regardless of who or whatever
is appearing and Thank you and welcome to all of the new volunteers.
Next year has got off to a flying start with Al Murray, so fingers crossed
for a successful 2009!
With Best wishes,

Charlie North Lewis
Tivoli Theatre Manager.
